Climate change
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that most of the temperature rises since the mid-twentieth century “very likely” due to growing greenhouse gas concentrations. Furthermore, a 2001 report by the IPCC suggests that glacier retreat, ice shelf disruption, sea level rise, changes in rainfall patterns, and increased intensity and frequency of extreme weather events are attributable part to global warming.
This concerning but inescapable trend will affect demand for Boskalis services in the long-term, as extreme weather, flooding and rising sea levels require investments in sophisticated and large-scale sea defenses. Boskalis expects widespread and growing demand for preventative measures new initiatives to protect vulnerable coastlines and riverbanks.
