Cases

Sustainability at Boskalis goes beyond managing our business and projects in a responsible manner. We seek to leverage our ability to influence and innovate, to create added social, environmental and economic value where we can. These cases illustrate our approach in action.

Overview Sustainability Cases

Philippines Case Study Seafarers

The Philippines - local fisherfolk receive seafarer training

As a key part of our Manila International Airport Project in the Philippines we have delivered several programs focused on local capacity-building and skills development that provide people from nearby communities with a steppingstone to future career opportunities.

Maldives

More than a contractor in the Maldives

Clients no longer turn to Boskalis only for the execution of complex maritime and infrastructure projects. Increasingly, the company is asked to play an important role on the financing side as well. One such example is the Gulhifalhu Phase 2 project in the Maldives where Boskalis has supported its client with the financing process and in meeting international standards on environmental and social management.

Zeegras

Seagrass restoration in the solent

Boskalis Westminster in the UK is working with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust (HIWWT) to undertake a seagrass restoration project within the Solent – a stretch of sea that separates the Isle of Wight from the southern coast of the mainland.

North sea biodiversity gets a boost

As a member of the BOOST (Better Oyster Outplacing & Seeding Techniques) consortium, Boskalis is participating in the development of a new method to establish large-scale oyster reefs as nature enhancements for offshore projects.

1 Rotterdam Reefs (3) (1)

Rotterdam reef project: enhancing the "groene poort" program

The Boskalis Artificial Reefs Program (ARP) is a research program aimed at understanding and applying the ecological, hydraulic and economic benefits of artificial reefs. The program consists of three key pillars: knowledge development, network creation and detailed engineering. The ARP offers a unique platform to exchange concepts and develop fit-for-purpose designs for our clients.

Bio Fuels (2)

The energy transition: investigating alternative fuels

The development of the expertise and technology necessary for the international maritime industry to complete its energy transition relies on collaborations with our sector peers, knowledge institutions and other partners. Through this approach we are participants in several initiatives investigating the viability of alternative fuels – including methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen – as well as testing these fuels with leading maritime engine manufacturers.
