Platform reinforcement, DABRAT

Boskalis Offshore was awarded a contract by Maersk for the DABRAT project, involving both the preparation and construction work to the Dan A and Dan B offshore oil production facilities. The extensive scope not only included the subsea installation and removal work, but also fabrication of structural items, procurement, setting up and testing of lift equipment and structural examinations. The works covered the years 2013 and 2014.

The oldest Maersk Oil field, Dan Bravo, is located in the Danish sector of the North Sea. The first platform in the complex was installed in 1972. The complex consists of platforms A, B, C and D. The Dan B platform forms the production hub of the Dan Bravo Complex and Dan A platform is one of the wellhead platforms at the Dan Bravo complex. Maersk Oil decided to carry out a platform lifetime extension program for the forty year old jacket structure to extend the service period of the structure until 2042.

General summary of the work scope

  • Reduce sea wave load unto the jacket structure by removing old boat fenders and pump caissons.
  • Inspection history enhancement by investigating all available inspection data, searching for known cracks in the subsea structure and inspecting potential problem areas.
  • Remove crack or damaged areas and replace with new structure (e.g. conductor guide level).
  • Reinforce subsea structure by adding retrofit (clamped) structures to strengthen key areas.
  • Renew consumables by retrofitting additional anodes by means of clamps due to depletion and removing some of the original anodes.
The 2013 offshore campaign started in July and was completed in September. During this campaign Boskalis performed the 3D subsea photogrammetry activities, classified as world’s largest ever undertaken, by air/saturation diving and ROV operations acquiring exact geometrical information of subsea K-joints to be able to design reinforcement clamps. Operations were performed on depths varying from 10 to 41 meters. Besides the technical challenges the environmental conditions as sea-state, fog and subsea reduced visibility (minimum 2 meter required for image taking) dictated the progress of the work.

Pipeline survey and freespan correction, Bach Ho

The Bach Ho Gas Pipeline is located at the South Coast of Vietnam in the province of Vung Tau and comprises a 16" pipeline installed in 1994. The 16" pipeline is one of the main production lines of Petrovietnam Gas Company (PVGAS) and important for the supply of natural gas to electrical power plants, production and export of LPG and other domestic users.

Gas pipeline project, Trans Thailand Malaysia

The Trans Thailand Malaysia Gas Pipeline Project comprised the installation of a 34 inch concrete coated gas pipeline, running from the joint Thai-Malaysia development area approximately 270 kilometers offshore towards the southern Thai coast near Chana. As part of this project a contract was awarded to the Boskalis Offshore B.V. - Tideway B.V. consortium for the provision of the dredging and backfilling works, whereas Boskalis Offshore provided the main equipment and project support.

Shore approach and landfall works, Libyan gas transmission system

West Libya aimed to enhance its position in the supply of continental Europe's energy needs. As the demand for cleaner energy was rising and gas consumption in Italy wasexpected to increase, Libya and Italy found common ground for cooperation. Construction of a 700 million USD gas treatment plant in Mellitah was the centrepiece of this West Libya gas project. The Mellitah plant is supplied with gas from the desert Wafa field, 520 kilometers south-west of Tripoli, and from the offshore Bahr Essalam field, 110 kilometers north of Tripoli.

Glory hole excavation, White Rose

The White Rose offshore oil field is the third major oil field in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin on the Grand Banks, some 350 kilometers east of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada and within 50 kilometers from the Terra Nova and Hibernia fields. The South White Rose oil pool covers approximately 40 square kilometers and contains an estimated 200-250 million barrels of recoverable oil.

Dredging and backfilling, TSEP

In order to increase the production capacity from the gas condensate fields located off the North West Coast of Western Australia, Woodside Energy Limited, on behalf of the North West Shelf JV Participants, has realized the installation of a multiphase subsea 42" pipeline. The new trunkline supplements an existing 40" pipeline, which conveys gas/condensate from the North West Shelf fields - North Rankin, Goodwyn and Cossack/Wanaea - to onshore treatment facilities located on the Burrup Peninsula near Dampier, Western Australia.

Seabed preparations, PGN

The pipeline between Pulau Pemping, Indonesia, and Pulau Sakra, Singapore, is the final link of the transportation system for natural gas from onshore fields on South Sumatra to Singapore. The successful completion of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts for the 27-kilometers 28-inch gas pipeline with a 96-core fibre optic cable in one of the busiest ports and shipping traffic zones of the world marked a milestone for Boskalis. The scope of work comprised not only seabed preparations and protective rock berm installation - Boskalis Offshore core activities - but also pipeline manufacturing and installation.
