Refloating, Zhen Hua 10

In the night of Friday to Saturday 2 February 2008, due to heavy wind, heavy cargo vessel Zhen Hua 10, carrying five gantry cranes, grounded alongside the beach, just outside Rotterdam on the Maasvlakte.

Saturday early in the morning SMIT Salvage was awarded a LOF contract to refloat the unfortunate vessel. Immediately a Salvage Master was brought on board by helicopter to assist the captain. A salvage crew from Rotterdam soon arrived on site. In order to lighten the vessel the salvors started debalasting the casualty. During daylight 3 harbor tugs were connected to the casualty. Moreover other resources, including extra pumps and a powerful 220 tonnes bollard pull oceangoing tug Janus were being mobilized. On Monday 4 February a lot of progress was made by connecting the fourth vessel Janus to the Zhen Hua 10.  In the night of Monday to Tuesday 5 February, during high tide, SMIT Salvage successfully refloated the vessel at around 01.10h.

Salvage operation, Mighty Servant 3

In the morning of 6 December 2006 semi submersible vessel Mighty Servant 3 developed a list and sank off the port of Luanda, Angola, after the offloading of drilling platform Aleutian Key. The vessel was resting at the sea bottom in approximately 52 meters of water.
