Press release

Papendrecht, 13 July 2017

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has been awarded a LoI (Letter of Intent) in joint venture with Van Oord for rock placement services for the Nord Stream 2  project. The award was made by the project developer Nord Stream 2 AG and is a part of the construction of the planned twin 1,200 kilometer gas pipelines running through the Baltic Sea, connecting Russia to Europe. The contract value is approximately EUR 250 million, with a 50% share for Boskalis. Contract details are expected to be finalized in the next few weeks.

Rock needs to be installed at specific locations along the pipeline route to level the seabed and to protect the pipelines. The contract scope includes the sourcing of rock from quarries in the Baltic region. The project will be executed in a 50/50 partnership and multiple specialized fallpipe vessels will be deployed in the period 2018-2019.

In the period 2010-2012 Boskalis was also contracted for the rock placement scope for the first Nord Stream project and also constructed the landfall in Germany.

Boskalis' strategy is aimed at benefitting from key macro-economic factors which drive worldwide demand in our markets: expansion of the global economy, increase in energy consumption, global population growth and the challenges that go hand in hand with climate change. This development emphasizes the need for infrastructure to accommodate the continued demand for natural gas.

Nord Stream

Project

Trench dredging gas pipeline, Nord Stream

The Nord Stream gas pipeline project is a joint project of four major companies: Gazprom, BASF/Wintershall, E.ON Ruhrgas and Gasunie. The project is more than just a pipeline. It is a new channel for Russian natural gas exports and a major infrastructure project which is expected to set a new benchmark in EU-Russia cooperation. In view of current developments the new pipeline will be an important factor of energy security in Europe.Nord Stream consists out of two 1,220 kilometers sub-sea gas pipelines from Russia to Northern Germany through the Baltic Sea and will transport natural gas to supply both businesses and private households. The first pipeline is due for completion in 2011. The second line is due to be completed in 2012. Boskalis Offshore, partner within the Joint Venture Boskalis Offshore-Tideway, will prepare the seabed (by means of subsea rock installation) for the laying of the pipelines over the full distance of the Nord Stream pipeline route. Boskalis Offshore also executes the shore approach of the pipelines in Germany. The contract for the preparation of the seabed for the 1,220 kilometers pipelines requires the construction of rock beds and berms using rocks to level the seabed and to provide on-bottom stability for both pipelines. Subsea rock installation will be executed by the nominated Dynamically Positioned Fallpipe Vessels Seahorse, Sandpiper and Rollingstone. The project will be executed in a 50/50 partnership with Tideway. The contract for the shore approach for the pipelines in Germany requires dredging of a trench for the pipelines, pipe-pulls over a distance of approximately 1.4 kilometers and the backfilling of the dredged trench. A 700 meters cofferdam will be constructed at the landfall to facilitate the pipe-pulls. The shore approach will be executed in a 50/50 partnership with Rohde Nielsen A/S.

Boskalis awarded Nord Stream Post-lay Rock Protection Project

Papendrecht, 3 May 2010 Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has been awarded a LoI (Letter of Intent) to install rock on the 1,220-kilometer "Nord Stream" gas pipelines running through the Baltic Sea, connecting Russia to Northern Germany. The contract value will amount to approximately € 100 million, with the share of Boskalis amounting approximately € 50 million. Earlier, in January 2009 Boskalis already acquired the contract for seabed preparation prior to the installation of the two 48" gas pipelines. This subsequent contract requires Boskalis to install rock berms at critical sections of the installed pipelines after the pipeline is laid. This single contract will represent one of the largest pipeline rock protection contracts ever awarded. The rock - coarse gravel with a diameter of typically less than 10 cm - will be sourced from countries on the Baltic Sea coast. The rock material has to meet certain engineering and environmental criteria. Material has to be free from clay, silt, chalk, vegetation, or other deleterious substances. It will behave as any existing inert material on the seabed and will be re-colonised within a few years. In shallow waters, algae will soon populate exposed surfaces and in deeper water where oxygen and light are scarce, the surface of the rocks will be colonised by micro-organisms. Boskalis Offshore worked closely with the main contractor Saipem in the preliminary project phase. The project will be executed in a 50/50 partnership and at least two, potentially three fall pipe vessels will be deployed, depending on the pipeline installation sequence chosen. The project is scheduled to start in 2011 and will be completed in 2012. The energy-related offshore activities of Boskalis have shown strong growth over the last few years. Going forward, Boskalis sees numerous opportunities for further growth. The company also benefits from the strong safety record it has developed in these types of projects. The Boskalis strategy is designed to benefit from the key macro-economic drivers that are fueling global demand in our selected markets: the growth in global trade, increasing energy consumption, expanding population pressures and the challenges of climate change. These offshore projects emphasize the need for infrastructure in order to accommodate the strong demand for energy resources. Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. is a leading global services provider operating in the dredging, maritime infrastructure and maritime services sectors. We provide creative and innovative all-round solutions to infrastructural challenges in the maritime, coastal and delta regions of the world including the construction and maintenance of ports and waterways, land reclamation, coastal defense and riverbank protection. We offer a wide variety of marine services through SMIT and we have positions in strategic partnerships in the Middle East (Archirodon) and in offshore services (Lamnalco). The company holds important home market positions in and outside of Europe. Boskalis has a versatile fleet of over 1,000 units and operates in over 65 countries across six continents. Boskalis acquires oil- and gas-related contracts

8 January 2009 Royal Boskalis Westminster nv has acquired three oil- and gas-related contracts for projects in Europe and the Middle East. The total contract value amounts to approximately € 100 million. Two contracts are linked to the "Nord Stream" project. This project encompasses the construction of two 1,220-kilometer gas pipelines from Russia to Northern Germany through the Baltic Sea. Boskalis will prepare the seabed for the laying of the pipelines over the full distance of the Nord Stream pipelines, and also execute the shore approach of the pipelines in Germany. The contract for the preparation of the seabed for the 1,220-kilometer double pipeline requires the construction of rock beds and berms using approximately 320,000 tonnes of rock to level and stabilize the seabed. The project will be executed in a 50/50 partnership with Tideway and be realized in 2010. The contract for the shore approach for the double pipeline in Germany requires the dredging of a 23-kilometer trench for the pipes, a pipe-pull over a distance of approximately 800 meters and the backfilling of the dredged trench. A 650-meter cofferdam will be constructed on the waterline to protect the pipeline. The project will be executed in a 50/50 partnership with Rohde Nielsen A/S and will also be realized in 2010. The third contract comprises the infrastructure, including the shore approach, for an oil pipeline from the Safaniyah offshore field to the mainland of Saudi Arabia. Boskalis will dredge a 7-kilometer trench and backfill the trench with sand after completing a pipe-pull. The project will be executed in 2009 for Saudi Aramco. In all three projects, Saipem will be the leading contractor. The energy-related offshore activities of Boskalis have shown strong growth over the last few years.
