Aberdeen bay offshore windfarm project

Boskalis was responsible for the eleven suction bucket jacket foundations, scour protection, 66 kV inter array and export cables and the installation of the wind turbine generators.

The Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm is also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. The Windfarm is located approximately 3 kilometers off the coast of Aberdeen, United Kingdom. With its eleven wind turbines it has a total capacity of 93.2 MW (2 * 8.8 + 9 * 8.4 MW). The wind farm features the world’s most powerful wind turbine at date, exporting power through 66 kV cables and supported on suction bucket jackets. This novel foundation type constitutes one of the major innovations of the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm project, which is being used here on a large scale for the first time. In essence, a suction bucket jacket is a steel structure welded to three large, inverted steel buckets which are lowered onto the seabed. The water is pumped out of the steel buckets, creating negative pressure driving the buckets to the desired penetration into the seabed.

Rock installation, PDET

In 2008 Boskalis was approached by Petrobras to carry out a rock installation project at the oceanic terminal, one of Petrobras’ offshore oil production locations. The terminal, situated at Campos Basin offshore Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a maritime complex consisting of one Independent Re-pump Platform (PRA-1), two monobuoys and a FSO vessel which links to a 20 inch gas pipeline system.

Offshore wind farm, Walney

Windfarm construction projects regularly feature in the work programmes of SMIT’s sheerlegs fleet. For example, the Taklift 7 was involved in the Walney Offshore Windfarm development in the Irish Sea. Walney Offshore is a wind farm project developed by DONG in the Irish Sea, some 20 miles from the coast at Barrow.

Pipeline crossing, Strait of Magellan

The project involved the construction of a new, strategically important, 24" natural gas pipeline across the Strait of Magellan, linking Cabo Espíritu Santo in Tierra del Fuego province with Cabo Vírgenes in Santa Cruz province. The new pipeline was built as an expansion of the existing San Martín pipeline in an effort by the government to increase gas supplies from Tierra del Fuego to the Argentinian mainland.
