Tunnels
and bridges

Boskalis designs, develops and constructs bridges and tunnels, providing solutions covering the entire process. For bridge construction over a river or estuary we first level the riverbed, install the bridge pillars or piers, and provide scour protection. Bridge parts can be installed by tandem lift. Underwater tunnel construction involves dredging the tunnel trench before laying the tunnel foundations. We also excavate construction sites for immersible tunnel elements that are then towed out and installed before backfilling the tunnel trench.

Top grade tunnel and bridge solutions

Designing, developing and constructing bridges and tunnels is technically complex and economically challenging. Boskalis provides design and environmental expertise. We employ innovative surveying and installation techniques and specialist materials.

We minimize risks and uncertainties to deliver the solutions you need.

Our track record speaks for itself. Over the past few decades, we have been involved in a large number of tunnel and bridge projects, including the Øresund immersed tunnel connecting Denmark with Sweden, and the Stralsund bridge in Germany.

Port expansion,
Maasvlakte 2

PUMA, the Project Organization for the Extension of the Maasvlakte, is a 50/50 joint venture between dredging and marine contractors Boskalis and Van Oord. The consortium has been contracted by the Rotterdam Port Authority to construct the first phase of the Maasvlakte 2 Project – the extension of the Port of Rotterdam – between 2008 and 2013. The new zone will encompass 2,000 hectares of new land, roughly the same size as the total surface area of Schiphol airport. Half of the area will become land for a future business park.
